The year’s about to come to an end and it’s been another wild ride in MARVEL Puzzle Quest so let’s take a quick trip down this year’s memory lane.
Champions 2.0 wrapped up its final batch of heroes in the back log ushering in a new era of rewards and gameplay for every rarity character in the game making them Ascendable up into 5-Star land.
A blast from the past saw the resurgence of 2-Star Characters with the introduction of Nightcrawler (Uncanny Spider-Man), Electro (Maxwell Dillon), Iron Patriot (James Rhodes), Ghost Rider (Alejandra Jones), and best boi Bob (Agent of H.Y.D.R.A.). Coming full circle into the game’s meta saw Supports in PVP which ushered in a new era of how players face off against each other in competitive play.
Characters also saw a bit of variety added to their wardrobe with the addition of chroma colors for some old and new outfits. But most importantly, 4-Star Venom got a suuuper kawaii glowup (😍) with a Necroko costume! Why? Because the community decided! And speaking of deciding, we’ll have our character rebalance survey early next year so stay tuned for that list of characters that need a rebalance glowup soon.
NEW QUESTS & SEASON PASS
Quests also made a mark in your daily MPQ routine with the introduction of Seasonal Vault Quests that unlocked a new way to expand your rosters and take advantage of some of the vault’s spicy spoils. They then evolved into a brand new Season Pass rewarding players for climbing the ranks of the Pass to unlock the rewards up its rungs.
This was a really exciting feature for us to roll out and we’ve definitely heard both praise and constructive feedback from our community so stay tuned for next year when a hybrid Season Pass will launch featuring tokens that can be redeemed in a brand new vault.
CODE REDEMPTION
With our new Devpool hire during the summer, we pullEd off a taco party and were Very excited to launch a brand code redemption feature on our official website. This new tool rewarded Players on the lookout for cOdes that we’ve been releasing throughout the year. We’ll have tO check with him if there’re any more codes Lying around so just keep your eyes out okay?
These were just a few of the fun highlights that we rolled out with in 2024 so let’s see what another year brings us as we look into 2025 for a sneak peak into our current roadmap of features in the works!
NEW GAME ENGINE (Q1 2025)
Let’s kick this off with our biggest change, the Unity Engine upgrade. It’s been mentioned a ton this year, but yes, MPQ is in the midst of getting a long overdue engine overhaul from its original proprietary custom engine. From a backend engineering perspective, this change has been something we’ve been eagerly awaiting as it’ll completely change how nearly all aspects of the game are built.
From a front-end perspective, players won’t really see anything new when it comes out and that’s a good thing! Our goal is for a seamless transition to Unity engine and once this transition is complete, and more importantly, stable, it’ll open the doors of opportunity for us to tackle several features that we’ve been eagerly waiting to tackle.
New players will benefit from the new engine with a brand new intro to MPQ when they first launch the game. Our current tutorial hasn’t had many changes to it since the game first launched and it’s long overdue for us to overhaul the First Time User Experience (FTUE) to incorporate all that has changed over the game’s decade long run.
EVENTS
This year saw a blast from the past with a few old events coming out of storage and peek into the future as we introduced a new MPQ vs Zombies PVE event during our 11th anniversary. We’ve got no plans on slowing down when it comes to getting events back into a fresh rotation in MPQ so you can expect to see new additions this coming year.
Specifically, new PVE events should see a steady release throughout the year and PVP events will mutate into new variant types that will challenge your rosters by way of fun requirements such as Only Blue Characters, X-Men Only, 1/2/3 Star only, one of each rarity, etc etc. What kinds of PVP events would you like to see take shape? QUALITY OF LIFE
The new engine is a great quality-of-life boon for us as a dev team, but how does that translate to players? For starters, the constraints of our limited UI will be unshackled and that’ll give us a lot more flexibility to optimize areas that were pain points while playing the game. These changes will range from small QOL changes scattered across our future releases to larger ones that we’ll spotlight in future updates.
LOGIN CALENDARS
It’s been awesome to see how long players have been logging into MPQ when they show their S.H.I.E.L.D. Resupply streaks and for those who want to experience a different version of that exciting FOMO, we’ll be introducing monthly login calendars filled with rewards for daily logins.
CHAT FEATURES
We’re digging communications in MPQ out of the flip phone era with much-needed enhancements to how chat functions in the game. Not only will messaging your alliance members in chat work better, but you’ll also be able to share custom emojis that we’re excited to roll out throughout the year!
SOCIAL FLAIRS
Some of the fun in MPQ is sharing the progress you’ve made in the game. Not only by peacocking your login streak, but also with your hand-curated roster of characters collected over the years. In the future, these areas are going to receive a visual level up as we’ll be implementing new shiny graphical upgrades across several locations where your account can be seen by other players.
ROADMAP TIMING
While we can’t give specifics on timing yet, this early glimpse into 2025 is something that we’re really excited about and we hope that you are as well! More details will come in the coming year as we get close to rolling out specific features, but this roadmap represents a few of the many things we’ve got in the works throughout the year and look forward to having you join us for another exciting year of Marvel match 3 action!
